Maine is known for its natural beauty throughout the state, particularly along its 3,478 miles of coastline. This coastline is home to more than 3,000 marine species and is a crucial piece of Maine’s economy. Maine
is beloved by many as evident from its over 6 million annual out-of-state visitors. But, just as everywhere else in the world, Maine
is being greatly affected by environmental impacts and climate change. The ocean is warming rapidly, the sea level is rising an alarming amount, the pH levels in the ocean are increasing leading to acidification, and plastic pollution is a pervasive issue.
The Next Wave was created because educating the younger generations about how they can both impact and preserve Maine’s coastline
is imperative. This project was also created because I love Maine, it is my home state,
and I hope for it and its beauty to be around for a long, long time.
